TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS |
ALL-ON-4® DENTAL IMPLANTS |
All-on-4® implants utilize four strategically placed implants to support a complete arch of teeth, whether in the upper or lower jaw. This innovative technique is particularly beneficial for patients with low jawbone density, as it reduces the need for extensive bone grafting. By leveraging the natural support of the existing jawbone in specific areas, the All-on-4® method allows for quicker recovery and less downtime compared to traditional implant procedures. |
ALL-ON-6® DENTAL IMPLANTS |
All-on-6® implants involve the placement of six implants per arch, offering greater support and stability. This method provides a more secure foundation for prosthetic teeth, making it an excellent choice for patients requiring enhanced stability due to higher bite forces or more extensive tooth loss. By evenly distributing the load across the dental arch, the All-on-6® method maintains jawbone health and lowers the risk of failure. |
ALL-ON-X DENTAL IMPLANTS |
All-On-X implants refer to a flexible approach that allows for a variable number of implants per arch, with "X" denoting the specific number used. This adaptable technique can meet a variety of dental needs and is suitable for a wide range of patients. |
TITANIUM DENTAL IMPLANTS |
Titanium dental implants are a favored solution for tooth replacement due to their strength and durability. Made from a lightweight metal, titanium integrates seamlessly with the jawbone. Additionally, titanium is corrosion-resistant and has a low risk of causing allergic reactions, making it a safe option for most individuals. With proper maintenance, they can last a lifetime, effectively restoring both function and aesthetics to a patient’s smile. |
ZIRCONIA DENTAL IMPLANTS |
Zirconia implants are similar to traditional implants but are made from ceramic rather than surgical-grade titanium. Unlike titanium, which can cause gum discoloration over time, zirconia closely resembles the natural color of teeth, making it an ideal choice for front tooth replacements or for patients with sensitive gums. |
MINI DENTAL IMPLANTS |
Mini dental implants provide a less invasive option for tooth replacement, making them ideal for patients with limited bone density or those who are seeking a quicker recovery. These smaller implants, typically half the diameter of standard implants, can be placed with minimal discomfort and usually don’t require extensive bone grafting. Their design allows for immediate stabilization of dentures or crowns, enabling patients to achieve a functional smile in a shorter period. |
ZYGOMATIC DENTAL IMPLANTS |
Zygomatic implants are specially designed for individuals with significant jawbone loss, especially in the upper jaw. Unlike traditional implants that are anchored in the jawbone, zygomatic implants are securely placed in the zygomatic bone, or cheekbone. This innovative approach allows for effective treatment even in cases where conventional methods cannot be supported due to insufficient jawbone density. |
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR
MANHATTAN DENTAL IMPLANTS?
If you are missing one or more teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implant surgery in Manhattan. The ideal candidate is in good general health and a non-smoker. Additionally, it is important that patients have sufficient jawbone density to support the implant. If jawbone density has been lost, patients may need to undergo additional bone grafting procedures before opting for dental implants. Before you decide to undergo dental implant surgery, our oral surgeon, Dr. Datson, will perform a thorough consultation to determine your candidacy.
WHY CHOOSE DENTAL IMPLANTS
OVER DENTURES?
When compared to other methods of dental restoration, such as dentures or bridgework, dental implants have many advantages. Dental implants are a permanent tooth restoration option, meaning they won’t ever slip or dislodge from the mouth. Because they are implanted securely in the jawbone, they provide the durability that allows patients to eat and speak as they would if they never experienced tooth loss. While dentures may need to be replaced as frequently as every 5-10 years, implants can last a lifetime.
Dental implants in Manhattan are also effective in helping patients who have experienced tooth loss avoid further complications, such as the loss of jawbone density. When a tooth is lost and not replaced, the body will absorb the surrounding jawbone thinking it is no longer needed. When this occurs, patients may experience facial deformities, difficulty talking, eating, or chewing, as well as loosening of the surrounding teeth. Dental implants work to fill the gaps left behind by teeth that have been lost or removed to prevent bone loss.
HOW MUCH DO DENTAL IMPLANTS COST?
DOES INSURANCE COVER THE COST?
The cost of dental implants will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the extent of tooth loss, overall oral health, the condition of the jawbone, the area of the mouth in which teeth are missing from, and more. However, our office is committed to making a beautiful, healthy smile accessible to all patients. If the implants are deemed medically necessary, a percentage of the treatment will likely be covered by insurance. For patients without insurance our office is proud to offer financing to help cover the associated costs. HOW MANY DENTAL IMPLANTS
WILL I NEED?
The number of dental implants needed per patient will depend on their extent of tooth loss, jawbone density, as well as their overall dental health. The dental implant treatment is highly customizable and our talented Manhattan oral surgeon, Dr. Datson, will create a personalized treatment plan to help you meet your specific needs. When it comes to replacing a full arch of teeth, some patients may only need 4-6 implants, while others may require more than 6 implants to provide sufficient support. During your consultation for dental implants in Manhattan, our advanced oral surgery team will evaluate your teeth and give you more insight into how many implants may be required to meet your goals.
HOW LONG DOES
DENTAL IMPLANT SURGERY TAKE?
Depending on how many implants are required to meet your goals, the initial placement can take anywhere from 1 to multiple hours. However, the surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia to ensure that patients remain comfortable throughout. After the implants are placed, the implants need to be given time to fuse with the jawbone, which can take several months to occur. This process is called osseointegration and is vital in providing the stability that patients seek from their dental implants. After the implants have fused with the jawbone, patients may return to the office to be fitted for their abutment and crown. If patients require bone grafting before their implants can be placed, the entire process may be extended over a longer period of time. Patients who opt for same day dental implants or immediate dental implants can expect to have their implants placed and temporary crowns fitted during the same procedure.
WHAT IS RECOVERY FROM
DENTAL IMPLANT SURGERY LIKE?
Following surgery, patients may experience mild pain at the site of their implant, along with swelling, bruising, and minor bleeding. It is important that patients rest after undergoing dental implant surgery in order to give their body proper time to heal and allow for the osseointegration process to occur. Patients should maintain an elevated head position to mitigate swelling and stick to a diet of soft foods or liquids until the surgical site heals. Dr. Datson may prescribe pain medication or antibiotics depending on the severity of the case. If you encounter any questions or concerns throughout the recovery period, we urge you to call our friendly staff at Madison Avenue Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY
DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Immediately after receiving dental implants, patients have to take some extra care when eating and cleaning the treatment area. Once fully healed, dental implants can be maintained the same way in which you would take care of natural teeth. Unlike dentures, which require daily removal, pastes, soaking, and more, dental implants require nothing more than routine brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups. Like natural teeth, dental implants require twice daily brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and low-abrasive toothpaste. Patients should ensure they are brushing around and under the dental prosthetic thoroughly. Patients should also be sure to floss daily with implant-specific floss and have their implants professionally cleaned every 6 months.
