Zygoma Implants

Zygomatic dental implants in NYC can restore a fuller upper arch of teeth without the need for additional bone grafting procedures. Zygomatic dental implants use innovative oral surgery advancements to offer smile restoration to patients with significant bone loss on the upper jaw. By placing the implants in the cheekbones, zygomatic implants can offer the same stable foundation for new teeth as traditional dental implants. At Madison Avenue Oral Surgery & Implant Center, we specialize in placing zygomatic implants to help patients replace teeth to the upper jaw.

What Are Zygomatic Dental Implants?

Zygomatic implants are similar to traditional dental implants in that they are comprised of titanium. However, zygomatic implants are placed at a precisely calculated angle in the zygoma bone, otherwise known as the cheekbone, rather than the jawbone. Because of this placement, the implants are much longer. By positioning the specialized implant in the cheekbone, zygomatic dental implants offer an alternative for patients with extensive bone density loss of the upper jaw.

How Do Zygomatic
Dental Implants Work?

Zygomatic dental implants in NYC work by positioning elongated titanium posts into the cheekbone at an angle, making the procedure ideal for patients who have experienced dramatic bone reabsorption as a result of missing, damaged, or decaying teeth. Unlike traditional dental implants that require dense jawbone, zygomatic dental implants are ideal for patients with extreme jawbone density loss.

Zygomatic dental implant surgery requires just two implants to provide the support needed to restore the full upper arch. Although less posts are used, they are longer in length, making them increasingly durable. Additionally, fewer posts results in a shorter procedure and recovery times. Zygomatic dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth and look, feel, and function like real teeth.

What Are The Benefits Of
Zygomatic Dental Implants?

Zygomatic dental implants do not require additional procedures to build sufficient bone density. Zygomatics dental implants are a viable option for patients with maximum loss of jawbone density, making the likelihood of success for bone grafting procedures minimal. In patients who have experienced significant bone loss, their body is at a higher risk of rejecting the bone graft. In most cases, patients who have significant bone density loss are not candidates for traditional dental implants.

Zygomatic implants are usually placed on the same day. That means patients can have any damaged teeth removed, their implant placed, and their temporary prosthetic fitted all during one office visit. When jawbone density loss progresses, the surrounding teeth often begin to loosen and fall out. Many patients who opt for zygomatic dental implants have lost most, if not all, of their upper and are seeking an expedited solution.

Zygomatic dental implants provide a strong foundation for dental restorations. The results of zygomatic dental implant surgery are permanent and require no specialized care. Once the permanent prosthetic is placed, patients can enjoy a restored ability to chew, talk, and smile with confidence. Zygomatic dental implants are designed to look and function like real teeth.

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For
Zygomatic Dental Implant Surgery?

The ideal candidate for zygomatic implants is someone who has lost all of or most of their teeth on the upper arch and is suffering from jawbone density loss. Patients who have been deemed not ideal candidates for traditional dental implant options may be ideal candidates for zygomatic dental implant surgery. Many patients who have long worn dentures seek zygomatic dental implants as a lower-maintenance, more durable solution to missing upper teeth. In most cases, patients with severe jawbone density loss still maintain sufficient bone density in the zygoma, or cheekbone. At Madison Avenue Oral Surgery & Implant Center, we will review your imaging and discuss your goals and concerns to determine if zygomatic dental implants are right for you.

How Do Zygomatic Dental Implants
Compare to Traditional Dental Implants?

The main difference between zygomatic dental implants and traditional dental implants is the implant placement and length. Zygomatic dental implants restore teeth when there is little-to-no jawbone density to work with, so they are implanted in the cheekbone instead. Zygomatic dental implants do not require bone grafting procedures. Because of their positioning in the cheek, the implants are much longer. Additionally, only two posts are needed to restore the full upper arch. Much like traditional dental implants, zygomatic dental implants in NYC are a permanent solution to missing teeth.

What Should I Expect During
Zygomatic Dental Implant Surgery?

Zygomatic dental implant surgery can be performed in one visit to the office. Before the procedure begins, patients will be administered anesthesia. Any broken, decayed, or damaged teeth will be removed. Dr. Datson will position two zygomatic implants, one into each cheekbone. These implants are placed at a precise angle to offer the most durability.

After the implants are placed, the temporary dental prosthesis will be attached. This prosthesis will be worn until osseointegration has occurred and the implant site has healed. Osseointegration occurs when the bone fuses with the implants.

What Should I Expect After
Zygomatic Dental Implant Surgery In NYC?

Immediately after zygomatic dental implant surgery, patients may experience mild discomfort as they begin to heal and osseointegration occurs. Because the implants are placed in the cheekbone, there is a higher risk of facial swelling. However, these symptoms are normal and should subside as your implants continue to heal. Zygomatic dental implants are safe, comfortable, and effective. Patients are required to take little-to-no downtime and pain should be minimal. Before returning home, you will be provided detailed post-operative instructions. Patients should follow these instructions with care to maximize their results and minimize their recovery.
